Another Toyota Soarer through the workshop. This one came in for a proper refresh: upgrade the setup, sort the basics, and add a few details that really make the difference.
Step 1: Exhaust
First job was the exhaust. We fitted an HKS Racing Muffler system (MK4 Supra) and did the required modifications to make it fit the Soarer.
Since the HKS system comes with its own distinctive finish, we also painted the exhaust to match the look we wanted on this car.
To finish it off, we did a clean tip for a more polished look, as per the customer’s preference.
Step 2: ECU check / preventive maintenance
Next up was reliability: we carried out an ECU repair/check + preventive maintenance, and followed up by checking how the car behaved afterwards.
WHY IS IT A GOOD IDEA?
ECUs don’t last forever. On 20+ year old cars, internal components can degrade even if everything seems fine, which may cause rough idle, running issues or overfueling—often without any fault codes. A preventive ECU service/check can catch these problems early and help avoid further damage to the ECU or wiring. If damage has progressed too far, repair may no longer be possible and replacement is the only option.
Step 3: Service + preventative maintenance
With the Soarer in the workshop, we also took care of the sensible maintenance items and checks:
Oil + OEM Toyota filter
NGK spark plugs
Timing belt service (belt / tensioner / idler)
New OEM water pump
Fan + shrouds
General inspection of wiring/connectors where needed
Not directly upgrade-related, but it’s smart to start with a solid baseline before adding custom hardware like a new intercooler setup, plus it helps avoid repeat labor and future issues.
Step 4: Full custom CBS intercooler kit
We also built and fitted a full custom CBS intercooler kit. It runs a 2.5” hot side and a 3” cold side, fabricated in-house with clean fitment in mind and a tidy engine bay – mounted on custom brackets made for this kit.
Job completed — Soarer back with the owner.
